Our Story
Hi, we’re Erica and Joe Savig, the Co-founders of humanStreams. We met 25 years ago at Stanford University. That’s also where humanStreams began, in Erica’s PhD research blending design and medicine. At Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital, she wanted to know how to engage children and families in deep reflection to help them process their difficult and often traumatic experiences of stem cell transplantation. Her approach was simple: invite families to dig into their experiences in response to thoughtful, creative prompts, with influences from Palliative Care and Design Thinking.

The results were clear. The prompts were a breakthrough in helping them express their deepest pain and their hopes for others. Participants felt excited and inspired, with a sense of relief and deeper purpose. They gained insight into their core human needs. Families grew closer together and more connected to the hospital care team.

We believe there are broader lessons here. Deep reflection can be effectively done in a way that is easier for us – even fun, inspiring, and fulfilling. More importantly, it can creatively reveal our deepest human needs, while bringing us closer to those we love, and more in touch with humanity.

That is what you’ll find on humanStreams.
